Person specification

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Relevant specialist experience post qualification e.g. autism, DLD population
  • Experience of working with children with SEND in an educational or multidisciplinary setting (e.g. clinic, mainstream schools))
  • Experience completing assessments and developing intervention plans

Desirable criteria

  • Student supervision / clinical education
  • Experience supervising junior staff e.g. therapy assistants, NQT
  • Teaching experience of in-service programs

Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Degree or equivalent in Speech and Language therapy
  • HCPC registration

Desirable criteria

  • Evidence of successful completion of specialist short courses
  • Registered Member of Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists

Knowledge and skills

Essential criteria

  • Well established knowledge of assessment tools relevant to the client group
  • A working knowledge of national policies and procedures relevant to the client group
  • Knowledge of appropriate therapeutic interventions relevant to the client group
  • Knowledge of a wide range of appropriate Augmentative and Alternative Communication aids for this client group
  • Understanding the roles of other professional relevant to the client group
  • Effective communication, monitoring, analysis and adaptation of interactions and responses within the assessment and therapeutic process

  • Excellent interpersonal skills – including observation, listening and empathy skills, and ability to consider cultural diversity
  • Negotiation and problem solving skills
  • Very good prioritisation skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to communicate complex information to others where there may be barriers to understand
