Interim Financial Accountant: Year-End Support | Swindon

Location: Swindon (hybrid, 2-3 days on site)

Contract: 3 months, with potential for extension

The opportunity

Our client is a pharmaceutical business based in Swindon, approaching a busy year-end. They are looking for an experienced Interim Financial Accountant to support the finance team through the close, audit and statutory reporting process, ensuring a smooth, accurate and on-time year-end.

This is a hands-on role for someone who can get up to speed quickly, work independently and add value from the first week.

Key responsibilities

• Support the year-end close, including accruals, prepayments, fixed asset and balance sheet reconciliations
• Prepare and review journals, ensuring accurate cut-off and period-end adjustments
• Assist with the preparation of statutory accounts and supporting disclosure notes
• Act as a key point of contact for external auditors, preparing audit schedules and responding to queries
• Support group reporting and consolidation packs, including intercompany reconciliations
• Review inventory valuation and provisions, including slow-moving and obsolete stock
• Assist with R&D cost capitalisation, grant income and R&D tax credit support
• Prepare year-end tax and VAT workings in conjunction with tax advisers
• Identify process improvements and document learnings for next year’s close

About you

• Qualified or part-qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent), or qualified by experience
• Proven experience in financial accounting and year-end, ideally within pharmaceuticals, life sciences or another regulated or R&D-led industry
• Strong knowledge of UK GAAP (FRS 102), with IFRS exposure a plus
• Experience supporting external audits
• Confident working with ERP systems and advanced Excel
• Organised, detail-focused and comfortable working to tight deadlines
