Project Quality Control Engineer – Leicester
Join a specialist engineering team supporting quality control across complex manufacturing and supply chain projects. This site-based role in Leicester is ideal for an experienced quality professional with strong knowledge of welded and machined components, supplier documentation, and inspection processes.
Rate: £55 per hour (Umbrella)

Client Overview
Our client is a well-established engineering company operating in the nuclear and advanced manufacturing sectors. They deliver high-quality fabricated and machined components, following stringent regulatory and project requirements.
Responsibilities
- Liaise with customers to define and align quality assurance, control, and inspection expectations.
- Review and approve supplier quality documentation including Quality Control Plans (QCPs), weld schedules, and NDT procedures.
- Attend supply chain kick-off meetings to ensure clarity around quality and documentation standards.
- Produce and assign inspection activities, coordinating with internal and customer inspection teams.
- Carry out inspection assignments, including risk assessments and witnessing NDT or functional tests.
- Review and endorse supplier documentation throughout the project lifecycle (NDT reports, weld schedules, EC&I test documentation).
- Ensure accurate recording and timely reporting of all inspection activities.
- Support ongoing concurrency and verification of Life Time Records and final release documentation.
- Advise project and supplier teams on quality control requirements and compliance risks.
Must‑have Requirements
- Weld inspection qualification – CSWIP 3.2 / 3.1 or PCN Level 2 (WI).
- Proven experience reviewing weld schedules/maps with associated weld procedures.
- Demonstrated understanding of Quality Control Plans and Inspection & Test Plans for welded and machined components.
- Previous experience working within a project environment, liaising with suppliers and reviewing manufacturing documentation.
- Strong grasp of quality management systems, ideally ISO 9001.
- Familiarity with fabrication, NDT and mechanical inspection processes.
- Excellent communication, report writing and organisational skills.
- Competent IT user (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Nice‑to‑have Skills
- Manufacturing apprenticeship or HNC in Engineering (or equivalent).
- NDT qualifications.
- Auditor training or internal audit experience.
- Background in a nuclear or other highly regulated industry.
