Apply for the Personal Assistant to the Bishop of Brixworth
Location: Northampton
Job Description:

The Diocese of Peterborough is looking for an organised, thoughtful and proactive Personal Assistant to support the Bishop of Brixworth.

This is a varied and trusted role at the heart of the Bishop’s Office. You will provide high-quality executive and administrative support, helping the Bishop to serve parishes, clergy and lay leaders across the Diocese and fulfil his wider responsibilities effectively.

You will manage a busy diary, coordinate meetings and church visits, prepare papers and briefings, track actions and handle correspondence with care and discretion. You will also help ensure that enquiries are directed to the right diocesan team and that information is organised, accessible and kept up to date.

The role includes supporting the Bishop’s responsibilities as Sponsoring Bishop for ordinands and Chair of the Peterborough Diocese Board of Education. This will involve coordinating meetings, correspondence and papers, maintaining confidential records and working closely with ordinands, education colleagues, training institutions and diocesan teams.

About you

We are looking for someone who:

  • has experience of providing senior administrative or executive support;
  • can manage a complex diary and balance competing priorities;
  • communicates clearly, warmly and appropriately with a wide range of people;
  • is confident using Microsoft 365, including Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, Word and Excel;
  • handles sensitive and confidential information with discretion and sound judgement;
  • is proactive, reliable and able to follow actions through without close supervision;
  • enjoys building positive working relationships and improving the way information and processes are managed.

Experience of working in a church, charity, public-sector or volunteer-led setting would be helpful, but it is not essential. Formal qualifications are welcomed, although demonstrated ability, good judgement and relevant experience are more important.

You will bring a calm, practical and collaborative approach, together with an understanding of how careful administration can support the ministry and mission of the Diocese.

The role is based at Bouverie Court, with flexibility for some home working by agreement. Occasional travel across the Diocese and some work outside standard hours may be required. Time off in lieu will be available by agreement.

The successful candidate will be required to undertake a DBS check and relevant safeguarding training.

We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds who share our commitment to inclusive and respectful working practices.
