Public Health Engineer

Overview

In this Senior Engineer role, you will lead Public Health and Fire Protection design for complex, multi-disciplinary projects across sectors. You’ll work within a collaborative Building Services team to deliver sustainable, compliant schemes on time and within budget. You’ll engage with clients and mentors, shaping technical solutions from feasibility to detailed design while advancing decarbonisation and water management goals. The position blends hands-on engineering with leadership in a dynamic, hybrid work environment that values innovation and measurable impact.

Responsibilities

• Lead PH and Fire Protection design on projects; coordinate multi-disciplinary inputs
• Mentor and develop staff; manage small multi-disciplinary projects
• Coordinate information gathering from Architects, QS and Design Consultants for fully coordinated design
• Ensure BIM input and support for Revit-based projects; support Navisworks reviews
• Ensure compliance with statutory regs, QA procedures, and obtain approvals
• Represent AECOM at client, design team and progress meetings; support pre-qualification and tender responses
• Maintain client relationships and ensure project work aligns with PM Plan and Programme
• Understand and implement AECOM Safety, Health and Environment policies

Key requirements

• Previous public health engineering experience in design consultancy or related business
• Strong knowledge of statutory regulations and ability to obtain approvals
• Independent work capability with good time/task management
• Experience across mixed-use, residential, commercial and healthcare sectors
• AutoCAD 2D proficiency; Revit and Navisworks competency
• Effective written and oral communication skills
• BPSS preferred
• Chartered Engineer with CIBSE/IET/IMechE (or working towards)
