Overview
As Legal Counsel at AJ Bell, you provide practical, commercially-focused legal advice to support growth and protect customers and the business. You will work across the group, partnering with stakeholders to address key legal issues that matter to the business. Your work will span drafting and negotiating commercial agreements, shaping customer terms, and ensuring regulatory obligations such as Consumer Duty are met efficiently. You will leverage legal tech and cross-functional collaboration to deliver timely, value-adding solutions. Responsibilities
- Draft, review and negotiate commercial contracts, including third-party supplier agreements and standard terms of business
- Develop and maintain customer terms and conditions in collaboration with Product, Risk and Compliance
- Research legal and technical issues and translate them into practical business advice
- Ensure compliance with regulatory obligations (e.g., Consumer Duty) in a proportionate, commercial manner
- Partner with Technology Services and Product to identify solutions and manage legal/regulatory risk
- Use judgement to focus legal input where it adds most value and drive risk-aware decision-making
- Explore legal technology and new ways of delivering legal support to improve efficiency
Key requirements
- Solicitor qualified in England and Wales
- 3–6 years’ PQE in commercial, corporate or financial services regulatory work
- Strong commercial judgement and practical, solutions-oriented approach
- Excellent drafting and analytical skills with attention to detail
- Ability to work independently, take ownership and make sound judgments
- Strong communication, influencing and negotiation skills with stakeholders at all levels
- Ability to simplify complex legal issues for non-lawyers
