Director of Engineering Productivity and Operations

Overview

As Director of Engineering Productivity & Operations, you will shape how Matillion engineers build, deliver, and operate the Maia platform. You’ll own the productivity agenda, guiding the evolution toward an agentic delivery model while ensuring efficient operations, metrics, cloud spending, and supplier management. You’ll lead a team spanning developer experience, release engineering, and CloudOps, collaborating with Finance and leadership to drive outcomes. This is a chance to help scale an AI-enabled data platform and strengthen the engineering engine behind it. You’ll work in a fast-paced, high-standard environment with cross-functional impact.

Responsibilities

• Define and lead the engineering productivity strategy with a shift to an agentic software delivery model across planning, coding, testing, review and deployment
• Own the roadmap for shared engineering platforms and delivery capabilities (CI/CD, release automation, observability, developer experience)
• Operate the engineering rhythm and a metrics framework to track delivery, quality, reliability, and cost
• Lead engineering FinOps and cloud cost optimisation with forecasting and sustainable savings
• Manage the engineering tooling portfolio end-to-end, including vendor evaluation, contract negotiation, and renewals in partnership with Finance, Procurement, Legal and Security

Key requirements

• Significant engineering leadership experience in SaaS, cloud platform, DevOps, developer experience, SRE, or engineering productivity
• Practical understanding of AI-assisted/agentic software development and experience leading a team building AI agents or tooling for engineers or a strong willingness to learn
• Experience running engineering operations with outcome-based productivity measures
• Hands-on experience with cloud cost management and vendor/contract management
