Overview

In this role you will act as a senior advisor for medical HR cases within the NHS Trust, focusing on MHPS employee relations. You will support managers to handle disciplinary, capability, grievance, absence, performance, and workplace conflict issues with fairness and legal compliance. You will collaborate with HR partners, unions, and senior leaders to deliver high‑quality ER support and contribute to organisational change and policy development. This role offers impact on medical HR practice and workforce transformation within a progressive People team.

Pay / Benefits

  • Hybrid working: 3 days on site in London and 2 from home

Responsibilities

  • Provide expert guidance on complex MHPS ER cases (discipline, capability, grievance, sickness, performance, conflict).
  • Support managers to manage cases consistently, in line with employment law and NHS policies.
  • Advise on sensitive employment matters, including professional conduct and wellbeing.
  • Support hearings and investigations and guide managers through processes.
  • Collaborate with HR Business Partners and wider teams to ensure a consistent ER service.
  • Build strong relationships with managers, leaders, staff representatives and unions.
  • Support ER input during organisational change, restructures and transformation programmes.
  • Identify ER data trends to inform workforce priorities and interventions.
  • Contribute to ER policies, procedures and guidance development.
  • Deliver training and coaching to managers to boost confidence in people management.
  • Promote equality, diversity, inclusion and fairness in ER practices.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of employment legislation and NHS guidance.

Key requirements

  • Significant experience in Employee Relations, HR or People function.
  • Strong MHPS medical case management background.
  • Experience supervising ER Advisors.
  • Solid knowledge of employment legislation and practical application.
  • Experience advising managers and senior leaders on difficult people issues.
  • Experience collaborating with recognised trade unions and staff representatives.
  • Excellent investigation, influencing, negotiation and conflict‑resolution skills.
  • Ability to interpret complex information and provide clear, pragmatic advice.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organisational skills with ability to manage a varied caseload.
