Systems Design Engineer

Overview

In this role you will design and coordinate system-level solutions for cradle-to-grave product development within TT Electronics’ Barnstaple team. You will work closely with cross-functional colleagues to capture requirements, generate design documentation, and support environmental, EMC, and qualification testing. You’ll contribute to proposals, BOM generation, and compliance reporting to enable safe, reliable systems for aerospace and defence applications. This is a hands-on, collaborative engineering role with meaningful impact on product architecture and verification.

Responsibilities

• Analyze customer documentation to capture requirements
• Produce design documentation for System Requirements Reviews (design specification, system architectural diagrams)
• Assist proposals and cost estimates with cross-functional input
• Generate Bills of Materials in ERP
• Create design proving and compliance documentation (FAT, design proving)
• Support environmental and EMC proving and qualification at test houses (potential travel)
• Compile final compliance matrix and qualification reports

Key requirements

• Bachelor in a technical discipline or HND with equivalent experience
• Demonstrated experience in system engineering of small to medium development projects
• Familiarisation with core project management tools (e.g., Gantt charts)
• Knowledge of Solidworks 3-D Mechanical Design Tool
• Knowledge of ALTIUM PCB Design Tool
• Strong system engineering management experience on complex multi-discipline projects
• BPSS security clearance suitability and travel willingness for testing and audits
