Overview

In this role you lead Health, Safety and Wellbeing across multiple sites for a reputable civil engineering contractor. You will act as the on-site SHW lead, shape safety culture, and ensure regulatory compliance and continuous improvement. You’ll work with operation teams and senior management to deliver safe projects across schemes in the North of England. This is an opportunity to influence safety practices at scale and drive performance in a collaborative, stakeholder-facing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the operational site lead for Safety, Health & wellbeing and provide expert advice
  • Challenge operational teams to maintain safe and healthy working environments on all sites
  • Chair regular HSE calls and represent the project in leadership and framework meetings
  • Conduct site inspections and behavioural observations with timely close-out of findings
  • Deliver daily HSE engagement on-site including toolbox talks, safety briefings, and wellbeing sessions
  • Support site delivery teams to ensure consistency of SHW delivery and capability
  • Support the SHW strategy implementation across operations as directed by the SHW Director
  • Drive compliance with SHW regulatory requirements and industry best practices (ISO 45001, 14001, 9001)
  • Lead investigations of accidents and incidents and embed learnings into future operations

Key requirements

  • Experience as a health and safety professional within construction, civil engineering, rail and/or highways infrastructure (ESSENTIAL)
  • NEBOSH General Certificate, Diploma (or equivalent) in Occupational Health & Safety (ESSENTIAL)
  • Capability managing H&S teams across multiple sites (ESSENTIAL)
  • Proven experience with ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001 regulatory and certification processes (ESSENTIAL)
  • Membership of IOSH or working toward Chartered status (ESSENTIAL)
