Overview

In this role you will deliver on-site Health, Safety, Environment & Fire support across Derwentside IRC and the broader Justice & Immigration business. You will promote a strong safety culture, ensure regulatory compliance, and support operational excellence through robust HSEF systems and risk management. You will work with cross-functional teams to embed sustainable safety practices, lead training and reporting, and influence leadership to prioritise safe, compliant operations. This is a hands-on role with impact on safeguarding people and assets in a complex public-sector environment.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver on-site HSEF support, assurance and advice
  • Promote adherence to corporate, contractual, and regulatory HSEF requirements
  • Advise on risk mitigation measures and vulnerabilities
  • Support development and continuous improvement of HSEF management systems
  • Assist operational staff with awareness and best practices
  • Lead HSEF event reporting, analysis and information provision
  • Review Fire Risk Assessments and HSEF inspections
  • Identify and deliver HSEF training
  • Provide SME support to bid and transformation projects/programmes
  • Deliver HSEF communications and investigatory support for SHE incidents
  • Collaborate with external agencies and other HSEF professionals

Key requirements

  • NEBOSH Level 3 (or equivalent)
  • Member of IOSH
  • Desirable: Specialist Fire Risk Assessment and Environmental qualifications
  • Understanding of ISO 45001 and ISO 14001
  • Ability to influence leaders and managers across stakeholders
  • Proven change management capability
  • Full UK driving licence
