Design Manager – PMCM Rail

Overview

As a Project & Design Delivery Manager at WSP, you will coordinate design delivery and manage multi-package workstreams for major UK clients. You’ll chair design technical meetings, oversee change control, RFIs and transmittals, and ensure alignment with scope, budget and programme. You’ll work closely with cross‑functional teams and on-site staff to drive buildability and innovation. This role offers development within a diverse team and a strong focus on client delivery and stakeholder engagement.

Responsibilities

• Chair design and delivery meetings with internal and external stakeholders and track actions
• Coordinate technical queries in cost and programme context and manage change control
• Improve project management processes, manage RFIs, transmittals and change control, mitigate risks and delays
• Review design information, quotations and technical documents for scope, budget, and client expectations
• Maintain project records, update delivery programmes, promote efficiency, innovation and buildability across design stages
• Oversee multiple work packages and support Lead Design Delivery Manager with delivery oversight

Key requirements

• Degree in relevant engineering, design, or management discipline
• Chartered or approaching membership of a relevant professional body
• Experience with major UK clients in a design consultancy environment
• Proven client-side project delivery experience on major projects
• Ability to develop and manage stakeholder relationships and strong listening/influencing skills
• On-site presence required 3 days per week
