Overview

In this role you help safeguard the safe operation of Hartlepool Power Station by applying specialist nuclear safety knowledge. You’ll work with Operations, Engineering, and central technical experts to support reactor safety and safety case compliance, contributing to the UK’s energy security. You’ll gain hands-on experience in an operational nuclear environment, with training and support toward professional registration. This is an opportunity to shape safety outcomes through analysis, modelling, and advisory work.

Responsibilities

  • Analyse plant data to support safe reactor operation
  • Run reactor physics models to assess core behaviour
  • Support core and fuel management and performance activities
  • Monitor reactor coolant activity using gamma spectroscopy techniques
  • Provide specialist reactor physics advice to support plant operation and safety
  • Provide advice on Technical Specifications and safety case compliance
  • Assess plant states, hazards and fault scenarios for appropriate protections
  • Support ALARP assessments and safety reviews
  • Author, verify and review safety case documents, Engineering Changes and safety submissions
  • Contribute to maintenance and implementation of the station Safety Case
  • Collaborate with Operations, Engineering and technical specialists
  • Support emergency response readiness when trained

Key requirements

  • Analytical, inquisitive mindset with problem-solving abilities
  • Clear interpretation and communication of technical information
  • Experience producing or presenting technical reports or documentation
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts to diverse stakeholders
  • Desirable: experience at an operational nuclear power station or within the nuclear industry
