Overview
In this role you will lead process safety engineering for the Building Systems UK site, focusing on compliance and safe operation of chemical processing within steel-related production. You will collaborate with senior management, cross-functional teams and contractors to deliver safety-driven objectives while adapting to changing demands. The position centers on hands-on process safety oversight (hazard analyses, equipment safety, and regulatory compliance) with a scope spanning steel processing, roll forming, and fabricating operations. You will drive continuous improvement and develop the engineering team to uphold safety and reliability at scale.

Responsibilities
- Lead process safety activities across steel processing, roll forming, slitting, fabricating and composite panels
- Develop and maintain process layouts, equipment specs, and capability confirmation for new and existing systems
- Ensure compliance with policy, legal and company regulations (cranes, lifting, pressure vessels, LEV, safety-critical plant)
- Manage contractors to maximize health & safety compliance and performance
- Oversee engineering budget and ensure achievement of targets
- Coordinate implementation of process safety system components and critical plant register
- Collect data, monitor chemical processes, and implement system/chemical improvements
- Stay updated on plant/process design developments and drive team technical progress
- Oversee materials flow: receipt, storage, usage, and critical spares through risk analysis
- Collaborate with Manufacturing and Logistics to maximize unit continuity and maintenance planning
- Recruit, motivate, train, and appraise the engineering team for safety-critical plant performance
- Cultivate a culture of continuous improvement and TPM initiatives
Key requirements
- Degree educated in Chemical Engineering, ideally Chartered Engineer
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in Process safety systems
- Knowledge of foam system technology, materials and chemicals
- Proven managerial success and ability to build trust across commercial, planning and operations
- Ability to negotiate with senior management and major suppliers/contractors
