Overview
As Syndicate Financial Controller, you will lead day-to-day Finance operations for the managing agency and its managed syndicates. You will own the financial close, balance-sheet integrity and treasury oversight, delivering accurate and well-controlled reporting. You will collaborate with technical accounting and regulatory teams to ensure compliant, complete financial information. The role combines technical accounting expertise with strong financial control, in a growing organization at the Lloyd’s market, offering opportunities to shape the finance control framework.
Responsibilities
- Lead daily Finance operations, including treasury, cash management, AP/AR, reconciliations and ledger controls
- Manage the financial close timetable and coordinate inputs across entities
- Deliver the trial balance and review financial results with appropriate analysis
- Collaborate with technical accounting and regulatory reporting teams for accurate information
- Own non-technical results and associated financial controls
- Act as a financial control partner across Finance for issue investigation and resolution
- Ensure assets and liabilities are recognised per UK GAAP and Solvency UK
- Maintain balance-sheet substantiation, reconciliations and evidence
- Oversee treasury controls, cash-flow and liquidity reporting; support governance
- Develop and maintain the financial control framework; drive data quality improvements
- Coordinate Finance support for internal/external audits
- Lead Finance projects and process improvements to enhance reporting efficiency
- Manage and develop direct reports as the team grows
- Identify and escalate material control weaknesses, risks and delivery issues
Key requirements
- Fully qualified accountant with post-qualification experience
- Strong Lloyd’s market or comparable insurance experience
- Deep knowledge of syndicate accounting, financial close and balance-sheet control
- Solid understanding of UK GAAP, Solvency UK and Lloyd’s reporting requirements
- Experience in both technical and non-technical insurance accounting
- Proven financial controls experience including reconciliations and substantiation
- Treasury, liquidity management and audit delivery experience
- Strong analytical skills and ability to challenge data
- Excellent attention to detail; able to meet demanding deadlines
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to work independently and build credible cross-business relationships
