Commercial Costs Lawyer

Overview

In this role you support high-value commercial disputes as a costs professional in a national litigation team. You prepare Bills of Costs for detailed assessment, negotiate costs, and handle litigation costs matters for a range of commercial clients. You’ll interact directly with clients, offer strategic costs advice, and back case handlers, with opportunities to mentor junior colleagues. Responsibilities

• Prepare Bills of Costs for detailed assessment and inter partes proceedings
• Conduct costs negotiations and manage litigation costs for commercial clients
• Provide strategic costs advice and direct client interaction
• Support case handlers throughout the lifecycle of commercial disputes
• Contribute to training and development of junior team members

Key requirements

• At least two years’ experience in costs drafting in a commercial litigation, business disputes, or insurance context
• Strong knowledge of legal procedures relevant to commercial litigation
• Experience with IT systems and time recording procedures
• Ability to manage a busy caseload with attention to detail and meeting deadlines
• Flexible approach to changing priorities and commercial demands
• Excellent communication skills with clients and stakeholders
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively
• Willingness to work the hours required, including occasional extended hours
• Desirable: ACL qualification or other relevant legal/financial qualifications
• Desirable: Experience in commercial legal departments or with business/insurance clients
