Overview
In this role you will design and embed a risk management framework for MBSCL’s advice business, ensuring independent oversight as the service goes live and scales. You’ll work closely with the executive team and the wider Risk & Compliance function to set appetite, monitor risks, and challenge first-line controls, especially around the AI advice engine and third-party dependencies. The role combines hands-on design with strategic oversight, offering the chance to build a resilient, compliant advisory capability within a fast-growing fintech. You will contribute to a culture of strong risk awareness and practical governance across the organisation.

Responsibilities
- Implement and tailor the group risk management framework for MBSCL (policies, governance, tooling) for go-live
- Develop and monitor risk appetite, tolerances and KRIs with the Board
- Coordinate risk and control self-assessments (RCSAs) and provide independent challenge
- Describe, design and embed controls for go-live, including the advice journey and AI engine
- Lead capital and liquidity adequacy assessment and wind-down planning with Finance
- Provide independent oversight of risk across conduct, operational, financial, model/AI, data and third-party risks; produce risk MI for Board and committees
- Establish and manage risk event, incident and breach processes with root-cause analysis and remediation tracking
- Design and deliver second-line control testing and assurance plan
- Oversee operational resilience and business continuity, including scenario testing
- Assess risks from dependency on DML and other third parties, including supplier risk and exit planning
- Provide risk opinions on new propositions, engine changes and major initiatives before launch
- Support Head of Risk and Compliance with FCA engagement and risk culture through training and partnering
Key requirements
- Substantial experience in a second-line risk role within FCA-regulated investment, wealth, platform or fintech
- Hands-on experience implementing or running a risk management framework (taxonomy, appetite, KRIs, RCSAs, risk reporting)
- Knowledge of FCA prudential regime for exempt CAD firms (wind down, own funds, liquid assets)
- Knowledge of operational resilience (SYSC 15A) and outsourcing/third-party risk (SYSC 8)
- Understanding of FCA conduct framework (Consumer Duty, COBS, SM&CR) in an advice context
- Experience supporting a new regulated service launch or FCA authorisation is desirable
- Technology/platform/model risk experience, including AI-driven decisioning, is beneficial
- Experience with group structures and supplier oversight is advantageous
- Ability to produce clear risk MI and papers for Board/regulator scrutiny
- Desirable: recognised risk qualification (e.g., IRM Certificate or Diploma)
