Overview

In this role you provide technical legal and regulatory guidance on EU and UK rules, helping integrate requirements into Vanguard’s risk, governance and controls. You will work with Compliance, Public Policy, Risk and business units to address emerging regulation and implement new rules in BAU operations. You will support complex enterprise change initiatives and advise on regulatory topics affecting the European group. You join a collaborative Legal team to protect client interests and contribute to strategic regulatory projects.

Responsibilities

  • Provide legal and regulatory analysis on EU/UK rules for enterprise topics
  • Advise on practical integration of regulatory requirements into business and controls framework
  • Collaborate with Corporate Operations, Change Management, Compliance, Public Policy, Risk and business units on regulatory impacts
  • Support complex change initiatives including group regional organization, regulatory authorisations, and corporate infrastructure
  • Conduct research and horizon scanning on applicable regulation
  • Support wider legal services unit and OGC team as needed
  • Partner with OGC teams globally and other Vanguard colleagues
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of investment industry regulations affecting European entities
  • Participate in special projects and other duties as required

Key requirements

  • Qualified lawyer with minimum five years’ PQE in-house at an international asset management organization and/or private practice
  • Experience advising buy-side businesses; familiarity with retail financial services regulation is advantageous
  • Strong knowledge of MiFID, UCITS, and AIFM regulatory frameworks
  • Ability to interpret asset management regulation and support compliance with regulatory changes
  • Proven ability to handle complex legal issues in a high-volume, fast-paced environment
  • Excellent drafting, negotiation and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines
  • Understanding of UK regulator and policy-maker priorities
