Overview

In this role you will design and verify protection and control systems for HV transmission and distribution, contributing to major 275kV/400kV projects within a UK energy programme. You collaborate with cross‑functional teams to ensure compliant, reliable schemes and support installation through commissioning. Responsibilities

  • Design protection and control schemes for HV transmission and distribution networks
  • Produce engineering drawings and design documentation using AutoCAD and ETAP
  • Perform calculations, studies and analysis to ensure reliability of protection schemes
  • Ensure compliance with engineering standards, safety, and environmental requirements
  • Conduct site surveys to inform design development
  • Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and construction teams
  • Provide technical support during installation, testing and commissioning
  • Lead design reviews and QA checks and stay updated on protection technology

Key requirements

  • Experience as a Protection & Control Engineer in electrical transmission, distribution or substation environments
  • Proven track record designing protection and control schemes for HV networks (275kV/400kV)
  • HNC or HND in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Knowledge of electrical networks, protection principles and standards
  • Experience interpreting technical documentation and producing detailed engineering design information
  • Familiarity with main substation control equipment from ABB, Hitachi, Siemens and GE
  • Understanding of IEC 61850 and IEC 60870 communication protocols
  • Chartered Engineer status and National Grid BP141 authorisation would be advantageous
