Python Developer / Team Lead – FinTech

Overview

In this role you lead a small, skilled tech team to deliver features and perform refactoring for a core banking platform within a well-funded FinTech. You work hands-on about half the time, shaping architecture and mentoring peers while driving continuous improvement. You collaborate with cross-functional colleagues and contribute to a platform that integrates with major banks like HSBC. This is a hands-on leadership role with meaningful impact on product scale and engineering culture.

Responsibilities

• Lead a small tech team to deliver new features and improvements
• Perform refactoring and contribute to architecture and design decisions
• Mentor junior developers and conduct 1-2-1s and performance reviews
• Set engineering standards and foster continuous improvement
• Collaborate across functions and contribute to the core banking platform
• Manage a 50/50 split between architecture/design and people management

Key requirements

• Experienced Python developer with SDLC knowledge
• Proven team leadership and people management experience
• Strong cloud knowledge (GCP preferred; AWS/Azure acceptable)
• Experience building APIs, ideally with FastAPI
• Solid CI/CD, testing, and deployment understanding
• Strong CS fundamentals (OOP, data structures, design patterns, algorithms)
• Degree in STEM with 2.1 or higher
