Overview

In this role you will lead procurement governance, policy and process improvement across the organisation, acting as the subject matter expert on procurement compliance. You will collaborate with operational and senior stakeholders to ensure compliant procurement activity that aligns with regulations and internal controls, while driving value and efficiency. You’ll build procurement maturity, manage a small team, and shape policy and assurance across multiple functions. This is a hands-on, impact-focused role in a social, community-oriented setting with a strong emphasis on collaboration and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and continuously improve procurement policy, procedures and governance frameworks
  • Ensure procurement activity is compliant with legislation and internal controls
  • Provide expert procurement guidance to stakeholders at all levels
  • Foster a culture of commercial awareness and best practice in contract management
  • Maintain procurement schedules, contract registers and supplier records
  • Oversee tendering and sourcing across spend categories
  • Monitor contract renewals and develop forward procurement plans
  • Identify and deliver cost savings and efficiency opportunities
  • Produce reports and recommendations for senior leadership and boards
  • Keep procurement processes aligned with regulatory developments
  • Lead procurement training and awareness initiatives
  • Oversee insurance-related procurement activities and supplier relationships
  • Line manage two direct reports and develop a high-performance team

Key requirements

  • Significant experience leading procurement in a regulated or public sector environment
  • Strong knowledge of UK public procurement legislation and best practice
  • Proven track record in improving governance, policy and compliance
  • Proven ability to identify and deliver savings and efficiency opportunities
  • Experience managing end-to-end tendering and contract awards
  • Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills
  • Strong analytical, reporting and presentation capabilities
  • Experience producing reports for senior leadership or boards
  • Previous people management experience
