Overview
In this role you oversee day-to-day operations across one or more sites, ensuring contracted services are delivered safely, efficiently, and in compliance with legal and client requirements. You act as the main contact for operational matters, supervise maintenance, and support site engineers and contractors. You will drive safety culture and continuous improvement, with particular focus on defence assets and naval accommodation. This is a cross-functional role that blends leadership, compliance, and service delivery at scale.

Responsibilities
- Supervise planned preventive maintenance and reactive electrical works
- Deputise Facilities Manager when needed
- Support site-based engineering and facilities teams
- Ensure health, safety, statutory, and regulatory compliance
- Utilise CAFM systems to track performance, assets, and compliance
- Build relationships with clients and stakeholders
- Drive continuous improvement of service delivery and efficiency
- Maintain technical standards across building systems
- Manage faults, breakdowns, testing, and inspections on defence assets
- Act as Authorised Person where required
- Promote health and safety culture and Permit to Work compliance
- Oversee contractor performance and adherence to safety, quality, and contractual requirements
- Oversee electrical systems (EICR, LV/HV), water hygiene (L8/ACOP), fire safety systems, and pressure/gas/lifting equipment
Key requirements
- Technical background (electrical, mechanical, or building services)
- Proven experience in Facilities Management (Hard Services)
- Strong understanding of statutory compliance
- Experience managing engineers and contractors
- Strong communication and organisational skills
- Experience using CAFM systems for work orders, maintenance schedules, asset data, and compliance
- Relevant technical qualifications (e.g. HNC/HND, City & Guilds, NVQ) – Desirable
- IOSH / NEBOSH Health & Safety qualification – Desirable
- Experience in government or secure environments – Desirable
- Knowledge of RM6232 framework – Desirable
