Overview
In this senior, hands-on role you will own the commercial performance of allocated structural steel projects from contract award to final account. You will work across a full lifecycle with project and operations teams, protecting margins and ensuring full entitlement. You’ll apply cost control, forecasting and contract expertise on technically demanding projects. This is an opportunity to influence outcomes on major UK projects within an established structural steel business.

Responsibilities
- Manage commercial performance of structural steelwork and construction projects
- Establish budgets and commercial controls; monitor performance against budget
- Prepare CVRs, cost reports and cash-flow forecasts
- Identify commercial risks and opportunities early; report to senior management
- Collaborate with project managers and operations to achieve commercial objectives
- Value engineering and cost-saving opportunities; manage variations and final accounts
- Review contracts for commercial obligations; protect company entitlement
- Procure and manage subcontractors and suppliers; evaluate quotations and negotiate terms
- Manage subcontractor/supplier valuations, payments, and final accounts
- Maintain client relationships; present commercial information to stakeholders
- Ensure commercial closure of projects and accurate final accounts
- Support contract negotiations and assess commercial risks on new projects
- Identify disputes early and work to resolve issues
- Prepare, submit and negotiate applications for payment and client valuations
- Exercise commercial notices and risk management across projects
- Oversee procurement alignment with budgets and programme requirements
- Ensure project documentation and commercial correspondence are accurate and timely
Key requirements
- Proven commercial management experience on live construction projects
- Experience from contract award through final account
- Strong cost control, forecasting and commercial reporting skills
- Experience managing variations, valuations, payments and final accounts
- Strong contract administration and negotiation skills
- Experience managing subcontractors and suppliers
- Understanding of commercial risk and margin protection
- Strong communication and stakeholder-management abilities
- Attention to detail and organisational capability
- MS Office and Excel proficiency
- Structural steel experience (advantageous)
