Lead Design Engineer (Electrical Connections)

Overview

As Lead Design Engineer, you will steer a five-person design team across electric, gas, and water projects within a growing multi-utility provider. You’ll ensure Tier 1 Assurance and asset compliance, while overseeing design reviews and technical approvals for developers and construction partners. The role blends leadership with hands-on design in a 33kV+ utility context, offering progression and development across gas and water networks. This is a mission-driven senior engineering role in a collaborative, expanding organization.

Responsibilities

• Lead a design team of 5 direct reports across electric, gas and water disciplines
• Run Tier 1 Assurance to ensure asset compliance with standards and regulations
• Carry out design reviews and issue technical approvals to developers
• Support construction partners with technical guidance and liaison with stakeholders
• Provide technical support and guidance to project teams and partners

Key requirements

• Electrical design background at 33kV or above
• Utility design experience (IDNO, ICP or DNO) preferred
• Management experience with strong interpersonal skills
• Commutable to Ashtead (hybrid work)
