Principal Mechanical Engineer

Overview

In this role you lead mechanical design projects across the full lifecycle within a collaborative, client‑facing consultancy. You will steer multidisciplinary teams, ensure technical quality, and translate client needs into compliant, practical solutions. You’ll mentor junior engineers, champion sustainable approaches, and shape project direction from concept to delivery. Responsibilities

• Leading mechanical design projects from concept through to delivery
• Managing project scope, resources, programme and technical delivery
• Reviewing mechanical calculations, designs and CAD models
• Coordinating multidisciplinary design teams and ensuring technical quality
• Supporting R&D and introducing innovative, sustainable engineering solutions
• Mentoring and developing junior engineers
• Working with clients and contractors to deliver compliant solutions
• Ensuring designs meet relevant UK regulations and industry standards

Key requirements

• Strong mechanical/building services design experience
• Experience within the built environment or consultancy sector
• Strong CAD and mechanical design capabilities
• Project management and team leadership experience
• A relevant Mechanical Engineering degree
• Chartered status or working towards chartership
• Strong knowledge of UK regulations and industry standards
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
