Lead Data Scientist – KYC/Onboarding

Overview

In this Technical Lead Data Scientist role, you will own the ML lifecycle for KYC onboarding, building models that support document verification and risk mitigation. You’ll work with cross-functional teams to translate data science into measurable business impact, improving the customer onboarding experience at Wise. You’ll lead model training, evaluation, and research, constantly iterating to keep systems accurate and production-ready. This role combines technical depth with mentorship, contributing to a mission‑driven, inclusive product environment. You’ll join a fast-paced team in London, shaping scalable data solutions that protect customers and drive growth.

Responsibilities

• Plan and ideate data science projects with cross-functional teams
• Apply ML/data science techniques to uncover opportunities in KYC processes
• Communicate value and limitations of data science initiatives to diverse stakeholders
• Manage and create large image and tabular datasets for KYC
• Iterate on deep learning image models
• Measure and optimize model performance
• Maintain and develop a large Python codebase with best practices
• Stay up-to-date with ML advancements and productionize new ideas
• Mentor junior team members in data science techniques and standards

Key requirements
