Overview

In this role you will maintain and restore complex building services across the hospital site to support safe, reliable operations. You will work on ventilation, pumps, boilers, medical gases and related systems, reacting to issues and performing diagnostic and repair work. You will respond to BMS alerts during night shifts and coordinate with the helpdesk to ensure continuity. You will also perform Planned Preventative Maintenance and gain Competent Person status for specialist systems. This role combines hands-on engineering, compliance, and proactive service delivery in a mission-critical healthcare setting.

Responsibilities

  • Support and maintain ventilation, pumps, compressors, boilers, medical gases, heating and domestic hot/cold-water systems
  • Respond to reactive maintenance requests with diagnostic fault-finding and repairs to complex mechanical systems
  • Respond to BMS alerts during night shifts and coordinate tasks and documentation with the team
  • Obtain Competent Person status for specialist systems following training
  • Carry out Planned Preventive Maintenance (PPM) across site per programme and personal competence
  • Ensure handover of records to Helpdesk at shift change for service continuity

Key requirements

  • City and Guilds/NVQ Level 2 and 3
  • Recognised apprenticeship in relevant engineering discipline
  • Experience in a maintenance environment
  • Good knowledge of complex mechanical systems including ventilation, pumps, compressors, boilers, medical gases, heating and hot/cold-water systems
