Overview
In this role you will oversee the execution of a specific project section within Thames Water projects, contributing to AMP8 delivery. You will work with cross-functional teams and key partners to ensure engineering tasks meet standards while maintaining safety and quality. The position offers a hands-on site leadership path with opportunities to coordinate design, QA/QC, and regulatory inspections. This role appeals to engineers who want tangible impact on water and wastewater infrastructure and continuous improvement across projects.

Responsibilities
- Lead site setup and overall delivery for the project section
- Collaborate with alliance partners and subcontractors
- Coordinate with delivery team and stakeholders to ensure smooth information flow
- Maintain accurate site records and report variances to management
- Assist in design coordination and documentation distribution for site works
- Hold site-based responsibilities including permits to work
- Potentially take on site coordination and subcontract management roles
- Support QA/QC activities on site, including ITPs and check sheets
- Assist with mandatory and regulatory inspections (SHE, LOLER, PUWER)
- Contribute to 5–6 week look-ahead schedules and supply chain coordination
- Prepare/approve and implement risk assessments and method statements
- Plan and procure materials and plant for site works
- Manage direct reports and support their development
- Ensure compliance with contract conditions and promote continuous improvement
- Attend regular coordination, progress, and resource meetings
- Monitor SHE performance and safety regulations
- Facilitate cross-discipline liaison and effective coordination
- Promote knowledge sharing back to Costain centre and wider industry
- Lead on site or smaller project responsibilities as required
Key requirements
- Understanding of engineering principles
- Construction techniques and best practices knowledge
- Some civil/MEICA construction experience
- Design Management experience
- Computer competence (MS Word, Excel, document control)
- Temporary works coordination, confined space, lifting operations, scaffold management
- Civil and commissioning phase experience
- Ability to lead a section of a large site or manage a smaller site solo
- Degree/HNC level qualification in engineering
- Relevant CSCS Card
- Health & Safety and Environmental management training
- Current Driving Licence
- APM Introductory Certification in progress or completed
