Overview

As a Quantity Surveyor, you drive commercial performance across building and civil projects, safeguarding cost, value, and risk. You’ll work with the project team to manage commercial activities in line with the programme and customer contracts, influencing outcomes through cost control, forecasting, and subcontract management. You’ll engage with stakeholders to resolve commercial issues and mentor junior team members. This role places you on a significant Glasgow building scheme within a collaborative, growth-focused firm.

Responsibilities

  • Measure, value and record works per contract and procedures
  • Manage commercial performance of building/structural work packages
  • Prepare cost-value reconciliations, forecasts and commercial reports
  • Review drawings, specifications and works information
  • Prepare bills of quantities, schedules of rates and first-principle estimates
  • Procure subcontractors and manage enquiries, tender comparisons and adjudications
  • Manage subcontract accounts (valuations, payments, variations, final accounts)
  • Coordinate with project team to plan commercial activities aligned with the programme
  • Collate and report cost/value information
  • Understand customer contract and commercial risks
  • Identify, assess and manage change, delay and disruption
  • Build relationships with customers, subcontractors and stakeholders
  • Support and mentor junior commercial team members

Key requirements

  • Previous Quantity Surveying experience in construction
  • Experience on building/structural/major construction projects
  • Experience managing subcontract procurement and accounts
  • Good knowledge of construction contracts and commercial processes
  • Ability to interpret drawings, specs and programme information
  • Experience preparing forecasts, cost reports and cost-value reconciliations
  • Strong commercial awareness and attention to detail
  • Effective communication, negotiation and stakeholder-management skills
