Principal / Associate Transport Planner – Development Planning

Overview

In this senior role, you will lead development planning projects from feasibility to planning approval, shaping the Bristol office’s growth. You’ll mentor the team, strengthen client relationships and contribute to business development. Expect to manage high-quality technical delivery across residential, commercial, and regeneration schemes in a collaborative, client-focused environment. You’ll influence project direction and strategy while delivering impact for the firm and its clients.

Responsibilities

• Lead preparation and technical review of Transport Assessments, Transport Statements, Travel Plans, and Access Appraisals
• Manage junction capacity assessments using Junctions 10 (ARCADY/PICADY) with trip generation forecasting (TRICS, TEMPro)
• Own projects from instruction to planning approval with strong technical delivery and commercial performance
• Serve as primary client liaison with local authorities and multidisciplinary design teams
• Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and QA across the transport planning team
• Support business development through fee proposals and securing new work in the South West
• Contribute to growth and strategic direction of the Bristol office

Key requirements

• Significant consultancy experience within development planning transport planning
• Strong technical knowledge of Transport Assessments, Transport Statements, Travel Plans and planning policy
• Excellent working knowledge of Junctions 10 (ARCADY/PICADY), TRICS and TEMPro
• Proven experience leading projects, managing client relationships and delivering high-quality work
• Strong commercial awareness with ability to identify opportunities and contribute to growth
• Previous experience mentoring or managing junior transport planners
