Overview
In this role you will design and deliver compliant LV/ELV electrical and security systems for UK transmission sites, from survey to handover. You’ll work within a specialist team to ensure technical excellence, safety, and regulatory compliance on critical national infrastructure projects. You’ll influence designs through reviews and change control while collaborating with cross-functional teams. This is a hands-on, cradle-to-grave role with opportunities to mentor others and shape large-scale electrical and security solutions.

Responsibilities
- Conduct site surveys on Electrical Transmission & Gas Transmission sites across the UK
- Produce detailed LV/ELV electrical and security designs aligned with standards
- Develop concept and detailed design packages for internal and external review
- Lead designs through 3rd party approval, construction, commissioning, and handover
- Create technical documentation: block diagrams, single line diagrams, wiring schematics, schedules
- Manage design change control and identify project risks with contingency plans
- Participate in HAZID/HAZCON and Design Assurance & Review meetings
- Collaborate with Design, Construction, Project Management teams and P6 Planners
- Mentor and develop team members
- Ensure compliance with company management systems and processes
Key requirements
- Proven Design Engineer experience in power transmission, utilities, or critical infrastructure
- Proficient in Amtech (or ElectricalOM) and AutoCAD
- Experience designing LV and ELV AC systems, AC UPS, and DC systems
- Experience designing security systems (Door Access, CCTV, Power Fence)
- Ability to create 2D drawings and ideally 3D BIM/Revit models
- Ability to produce detailed technical schedules (Cable, Load, Material, Equipment)
- Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Full, valid UK driving licence with willingness to travel across the UK mainland
- 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (2382) & Level 4 Design and Verification (2396) (Desirable)
- Minimum HNC in Electrical Engineering (Ideally BEng) (Desirable)
- Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status (Desirable)
- Experience with REVIT BIM, Hazardous Area Design (ATEX/IECEx), and DSEAR (Desirable)
- National Grid Person – Substation and/or EUSR – SHEA Gas certifications (Desirable)
