Overview
As a Project Controls Engineer, you will lead and support cross-functional control workstreams for complex defence projects. You will help define scope, establish a robust performance baseline, and manage change in collaboration with the Integrated Project Team. You’ll analyse data, support risk and cost management, and advise delivery decisions. This role sits at the intersection of delivery and governance within a prestigious defence portfolio, offering impact across multi-disciplinary programmes and exposure to MoD security considerations. You will work with suppliers and Finance to ensure accurate financial outlooks and continuous process improvement.
Responsibilities
- Lead specific workstreams within a cross-discipline Project Controls team
- Define scope with exclusions, assumptions, interfaces, and dependencies and decompose into WBS
- Support establishment of a robust Performance Measurement Baseline and change control
- Collaborate with suppliers to integrate and analyse project performance data
- Support scope, cost, risk, and schedule integration and alignment
- Analyze performance data including Earned Value Management to inform delivery decisions
- Liaise with Finance to generate prospective financial positions (e.g., ETC and EAC)
- Support risk management through identification, quantification, and oversight
- Assist Project Managers with resource deployment and scheduling
- Assure output quality, accuracy, and integrity
- Communicate delivery performance and influence stakeholders
- Promote learning from experience and drive process improvements
Key requirements
- Experience delivering projects
- Project Controls experience across one or more lifecycle stages
- Experience in Planning and Scheduling, Cost Estimation, Cost Control, Risk Management or Performance Reporting and related tools
- Basic understanding of Integrated Project Controls
- Proactive, curious, can-do attitude in uncertain environments
- Good communicator with influencing ability
- Desire to build community and network beyond delivery role
- Undergraduate degree in a relevant technical or management field or suitable equivalent
- Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., APM, PMI) or working towards
