Associate Fire Engineer

Overview

In this role you will lead performance-based and code-compliant fire strategies across healthcare, education, commercial, and other complex buildings. You will mentor teams, shape best practice, and collaborate across multidisciplinary groups to deliver safe, compliant designs. You’ll manage fire modelling and regulatory approvals, guiding projects from concept to handover. This is a chance to grow Stantec’s fire engineering capability and influence major schemes at scale.

Responsibilities

• Lead delivery of performance-based and code-compliant fire strategies across diverse portfolios
• Provide authoritative guidance through concept, detailed design, construction, and handover stages
• Oversee fire and smoke modelling (CFD), evacuation modelling, and smoke control with internal specialists
• Ensure designs meet regulations and Stantec quality processes (ADB, BS 9991, BS 9999, NFPA, EN)
• Act as Technical Lead on major bids and complex multi-disciplinary schemes
• Build strong relationships with clients, architects, developers, contractors, and authorities
• Lead client meetings, workshops, and regulatory consultations
• Support growth of the Fire Engineering service within the Buildings business in the UK
• Mentor Fire Engineers and promote technical excellence and knowledge sharing
• Lead internal initiatives and contribute to thought leadership within Stantec’s Fire Engineering community

Key requirements

• Extensive experience producing fire strategies for complex buildings
• Proficient in FDS, PyroSim, Pathfinder or similar modelling tools
• Strong communication skills for presenting technical matters to clients
• Experience in a consultancy environment working on multidisciplinary projects
• Proactive, collaborative mindset aligned to Stantec values of community, creativity and integrity
• Chartered Engineer (CEng) or working towards with IFE or equivalent
