Senior / Principal Power Systems Engineer

Overview

In this role, you will develop and deliver grid connection services for renewable energy projects across the UK and Ireland. You will work within the Transmission and Distribution team to perform power system studies, grid-code compliance, and design assistance, helping clients progress from siting through operations. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders to drive technical outcomes and project success. Responsibilities

• Support electrical design through power system studies
• Perform grid code and compliance studies using PSCAD, PowerFactory, and PSS/E
• Participate in interdisciplinary project reviews
• Conduct grid connection due diligence including optioneering, risk, and capacity assessments
• Contribute to PS&E package discipline components
• Develop construction cost estimates and technical effort estimates
• Assist in quality control reviews of design calculations/drawings
• Prepare technical specification sections
• Provide input to engineering budgets and schedules
• Liaise with OEMs and clients to drive technical outcomes
• Support proposals and bids

Key requirements

• Proven experience in Engineering Design Consultancy, OEM, or Utility network planning
• Understanding of transmission and distribution planning and connection processes
• Strong UK Grid Code knowledge and relevant guidelines (G99, G5/5, P28); Ireland Grid Code beneficial
• Proficiency in PSCAD, PowerFactory, and Python scripting
• Desirable: PSSE and ETAP experience
• Understanding of high voltage substation controls and protection principles
• Basic understanding of power electronics and renewable technologies
