Job Description:

Benefits: Bonus, Enhanced Pension, 26 days holiday + bank + a heap of other flexible benefits.

A well-established professional services business is hiring a Network Engineer to work within their Palo Alto, Meraki and Azure estate across its UK and international offices.

As a network specialist you’d work in a small, capable infrastructure team, that covers Palo Alto firewalls on-premise and in Azure, managed through Panorama, the Meraki switching and wireless across every office, and the Azure networking that connects it all.

The business has opened several overseas offices recently, so there is real build work on top of the day to day.

What you would be running:

  • The Palo Alto estate end to end: Panorama, security policy, site-to-site VPNs, GlobalProtect remote access, upgrades and hardware refreshes.

  • Palo Alto firewalls running in Azure, and the routing that pushes traffic through them.

  • Azure networking: VNets, peering, route tables, network security groups and hybrid connectivity back to the offices.

  • BGP and WAN routing between the offices and the cloud.

  • Meraki switching, wireless and network access control across the UK and overseas sites.

  • Using Terraform to automate the Meraki and Azure network configuration, and turning one-off setups into standards.

What they need from you:

  • Hands-on Palo Alto experience at configuration level, not just writing rules. Panorama, VPNs and ideally BGP on the firewall.

  • Real Azure networking. You have built VNets, peering and routing yourself and can explain why it was built that way.

  • Solid routing across multi-site environments, BGP in particular.

Useful but not essential:

Meraki, Terraform, AWS or GCP, Cloudflare, and 802.1x or ISE.

One thing worth being clear on:

if your firewall experience is Fortinet, Check Point or Cisco only, or your cloud experience is AWS only, this one is unlikely to be a fit. The same goes for strong campus or service provider engineers who have not worked in Azure.

They have interviewed plenty of good network engineers, and the ones who fell short were missing the Palo Alto and Azure depth.

Worth knowing upfront:

there is travel to other offices roughly once a quarter, including Europe and the US, all paid and planned well ahead. There is also an on-call rota for critical incidents.
