What will I be doing?
As a Senior Mechanical Maintenance Technician, you’ll play a critical role in ensuring SERC operates safely, reliably and efficiently. Working within what is effectively a 40MWe power station, you’ll lead mechanical maintenance activities, support operational excellence and help maximise plant availability while contributing to SUEZ’s sustainability objectives.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced maintenance professional looking to take ownership, influence site performance and mentor others. You’ll combine hands-on technical expertise with leadership responsibilities, driving continuous improvement and helping deliver essential environmental services.
Key responsibilities include:
- Planning and carrying out preventative, predictive and reactive mechanical maintenance across the facility.
- Leading, mentoring and developing junior members of the maintenance team to achieve high standards of performance and safety.
- Ensuring full compliance with health, safety, environmental and engineering standards.
- Identifying and implementing improvements that enhance equipment reliability, plant efficiency and operational performance.
- Providing technical expertise and practical problem-solving support for complex maintenance challenges.
What are the requirements?
The successful Senior Mechanical Technician will be a skilled and confident Senior Mechanical Maintenance Technician with significant experience in a heavy industrial environment such as Energy from Waste (EfW), power generation, utilities, manufacturing, chemical processing or other process industries.
Essential requirements:
- Completion of a 4-year apprenticeship programme as a Mechanical Fitter or Mechanical Technician, with a minimum of 5 years’ post-apprenticeship experience.
- NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Maintenance.
- BTEC Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Maintenance.
- HNC in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent experience).
- IOSH qualification and a strong understanding of health, safety and environmental legislation.
We’re particularly interested in individuals who can demonstrate strong leadership skills, confidently communicate technical information and drive improvements in plant availability, reliability and maintenance best practice.
Desirable qualifications and experience for this senior-level position include:
- MJI19 and MJI10 certifications.
- SKF Precision Shaft Alignment.
- VCAT II Vibration Analysis.
- BFPA Industrial Hydraulics Level 2.
- IFPS Fluid Power Certification.
- Lean Yellow Belt.
- CSWIP 3.0 Visual Weld Inspector.
- ASME Plant Inspector.
- Contractor Management Training.
- IMechE Engineering Technician (EngTech) registration.
