At New Chapters, we are a family-run service that offers vulnerable adults the opportunity to live independently in a supported environment.
We are seeking two dedicated full-time support workers for a service that is currently located in Langford while construction is ongoing at our usual Weston-super-Mare home.
The role involves supporting a number of vulnerable adults with autism, learning disabilities, epilepsy and behaviours that may challenge, as part of a team.
A driving licence and previous experience in a supported living setting are essential. In return, we offer you the chance to make a positive difference to the lives of others, working within a caring and close-knit team, all while receiving competitive rates of pay (£13.25 per hour) and benefits.
What you’ll do
Our support workers:
- Encourage the people we support to participate in their chosen activity or follow their interests.
- Co-ordinate scheduled activities for the people we support, using personalised rotas, liaising with others and ensuring facilitated activities and appointments are attended.
- Assist with personal care, including bathing, dressing, toileting and grooming, while respecting dignity and privacy, and/or support or prompt service users to undertake their personal care (as appropriate).
- Implement behaviour management strategies when necessary.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment.
- Update and maintain accurate records and take the lead in developing care plans.
These roles are offered on a 40-hour-a-week contract. Shifts are typically 12 or 14 hours, with the opportunity to undertake regular sleep-ins.
What we are seeking
We are seeking someone who has:
- Experience as a support worker in a supported living setting, as well as a strong desire to work with people who have mental health concerns, learning disabilities and/or display challenging behaviour.
- The ability to remain calm, empathetic and level-headed in all situations, particularly if faced with challenging behaviour.
- Excellent communication and listening skills, as you will be supporting people who use various methods of communication.
- Good basic comprehension of the English language, literacy, numeracy and IT skills.
- Ongoing commitment to your own personal development and training.
Unfortunately, we cannot sponsor visas for these roles, so we can only progress your application if you have the authority to work in the UK without visa sponsorship.
There are many great reasons to join our team!
- Competitive pay of £13.25 per hour, with the opportunity to earn more through sleep-ins.
- Free employee assistance and wellbeingservices, via an online platform and telephone helpline.
- Access to a wellbeing hub, discounts and online training through our employee training platform and eligibility to join the Blue Light Card scheme.
- A gift for your birthday and a long-service reward.
- Support to gain NVQs (while government funding lasts).
