Key Responsibilities Safeguarding

Support the DSL with the day-to-day operational management of safeguarding across the school.

Monitor safeguarding concerns, ensuring that information is appropriately recorded, followed up and escalated in line with school procedures.

Maintain accurate and confidential safeguarding records and contribute to the effective use of the school’s safeguarding systems.

Act as a key point of contact for staff regarding safeguarding concerns, providing advice and ensuring concerns are reported appropriately.

Support the DSL in liaising with parents, carers and external agencies, including social care, early help, health and other professionals.

Participate in safeguarding meetings, case reviews and multi-agency meetings as required.

Support the implementation and monitoring of safeguarding policies, procedures and risk assessments.

Promote a strong culture of safeguarding, ensuring that pupils’ welfare remains central to the work of the school.

Recognise signs of vulnerability, neglect, abuse and exploitation and ensure appropriate action is taken.

Maintain professional curiosity and ensure that concerns are followed through to an appropriate outcome.

Take a lead role in the day-to-day monitoring and improvement of pupil attendance and punctuality.

Monitor attendance data and identify pupils and families requiring early intervention or targeted support.

Work with pupils and families to identify and address barriers to regular attendance.

Lead attendance meetings and home visits where appropriate.

Develop and implement attendance support plans with pupils, parents and carers.

Work closely with school staff and external agencies to coordinate appropriate attendance support.

Follow school and local authority procedures regarding persistent absence and attendance concerns.

Maintain accurate records of attendance interventions and evaluate their impact.

Promote the importance of good attendance and punctuality across the school community.

Family Support

Build positive, respectful and trusting relationships with pupils, parents and carers.

Provide practical and emotional support to families experiencing difficulties that may affect a child’s wellbeing, attendance or educational progress.

Identify families who may benefit from early help and coordinate appropriate support.

Signpost and refer families to relevant internal and external services.

Undertake home visits where appropriate and in accordance with school procedures.

Support families to access services and develop strategies that promote positive outcomes for children and young people.

Maintain appropriate professional boundaries and confidentiality at all times.

Pupil Support and Wellbeing

Provide targeted support to pupils experiencing barriers to learning, attendance, wellbeing or engagement.

Work with pupils individually or in small groups to develop confidence, resilience and positive behaviours.

Advocate for the needs and wellbeing of pupils while maintaining a child-centred approach.

Support vulnerable pupils during periods of transition or significant change.

General Responsibilities

Work collaboratively with colleagues across the school to promote the safety, wellbeing and achievement of all pupils.

Maintain accurate, confidential and timely records.

Contribute to safeguarding, attendance and family support data analysis and reporting.

Attend relevant training and maintain up-to-date knowledge of safeguarding, attendance and family support practice.

Comply with all school policies, including safeguarding, confidentiality, health and safety, data protection and equality.

Undertake other reasonable duties appropriate to the grade and nature of the post.
