Job Description:

Network Support Engineer – Cambridge £35,000, mostly remote

£35,000 | Remote with 1 day/week in Cambridge | East Anglia

Our client has secured a significant contract to manage communications infrastructure across a large and rapidly expanding research campus near Cambridge. They’re looking for a Network Support Engineer to support the site – currently one day a week on campus, with the likelihood of a full-time on-site role developing over the next 12-18 months as the contract grows.

This is a great opportunity for a solid CCNA or JNCIA-level engineer based in East Anglia who wants a stable role with genuine long-term potential, without having to commute to London. Mostly remote now, with a clear path to becoming the permanent on-site engineer for a major, well-funded campus with 5-10 years of expansion ahead of it.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

  • Provide network support across a large research and residential campus environment
  • Routing and switching support – configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting
  • BGP and OSPF in a live production network
  • First and second line network support – resolving incidents and carrying out network changes
  • Maintain accurate documentation and support ongoing network improvements
  • On-site in Cambridge approximately one day per week – flexible remote working for the remainder
  • Optional on-call once settled into the role – not mandatory

TECH STACK

  • Routing & Switching
  • BGP / OSPF
  • Firewall experience (beneficial)
  • First / Second line network support

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

  • CCNA or JNCIA level – current or working towards it
  • Solid routing and switching fundamentals – BGP and OSPF in a support environment
  • First or second line network support experience – troubleshooting, changes, and maintenance
  • Firewall experience beneficial but not essential
  • VoIP familiarity a plus
  • Based in East Anglia – within approximately 30-40 miles of Cambridge
  • Reliable, proactive, and comfortable working independently on site

THE PACKAGE

  • Predominantly remote – 1 day per week on site in Cambridge
  • No mandatory on-call – optional once you’re settled
  • A role with strong long-term potential – likely to develop into a full-time on-site position as the contract expands

WHY THIS ROLE STANDS OUT

  • Mostly remote with only one day a week on site – strong work-life balance for an East Anglia-based engineer
  • Get in early on a major, long-term contract – this role is likely to grow significantly over the next few years
  • A well-funded, expanding research campus – stable, interesting work with a long runway
  • No mandatory on-call – refreshingly straightforward for a network support role
  • CCNA/JNCIA level entry point with genuine career development built in as the contract scales
