An established, highly respected product development consultancy in Cambridge is looking for a Senior Embedded Software Engineer to join its Electronics and Software group.
You’ll work on a wide range of client products across medtech, industrial and consumer sectors, taking ideas from first concept through to production. The company is at an exciting stage in its edge AI journey, building intelligent devices that run machine learning on the hardware itself, with no reliance on the cloud. It’s a genuine opportunity to help shape how the business develops and delivers edge AI.
What you’ll be doing
- Designing and developing embedded firmware in C and C++, with Python, for intelligent, connected products
- Bringing machine learning and machine vision onto embedded hardware, from microcontrollers to embedded Linux platforms
- Working directly with clients to understand their needs, define requirements and shape technical solutions
- Defining software architecture, features and functional requirements
- Presenting and explaining technical work to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Writing high-quality, production-ready code using modern tools and practices, including unit testing, CI and regression testing
What we’re looking for
- Strong commercial experience in embedded firmware development (C/C++) on Arm-based microcontrollers or processors
- Some hands‑on machine learning or computer vision experience, either commercially or through personal projects. TensorFlow, TensorFlow Lite, PyTorch or OpenCV are all relevant.
- Good software engineering practices: unit testing, continuous integration and version control
- Confident communication skills and comfort working with clients
- A degree in Electronic Engineering, Computer Science or a related subject
Nice to have
- NVIDIA Jetson or similar edge AI platforms
- Wireless (BLE, Wi‑Fi, cellular, low‑power radio) or wired comms (CAN, SPI, I2C, RS485)
- Low‑power or battery‑powered systems
- Real‑time signal processing and filtering
- Embedded Linux and embedded security
Why apply?
- Varied, technically challenging projects across multiple industries
- The chance to shape a growing edge AI capability
- A collaborative, open engineering culture with a great team
- Company bonus, enhanced pension and private healthcare
- Enhanced family‑friendly policies and life insurance
- EV and cycle‑to‑work schemes, on‑site parking and regular social events
You don’t need to tick every box. If you’re a strong embedded engineer with a real interest in machine learning, and you’ve explored it through work or your own projects, we’d love to hear from you.
