Senior Design Manager

Overview

In this role you guide design across one or more residential developments, ensuring quality, compliance, and buildability within programme and budget. You will steer design activities from pre-construction to completion, coordinating with internal teams, consultants and stakeholders to drive innovation and continuous improvement. You help shape thriving communities by upholding health, safety and sustainability standards while mentoring teams. Responsibilities

• Lead design management across one or more residential developments
• Coordinate design activities from pre-construction through to completion
• Review outputs for quality, compliance and buildability
• Identify and mitigate technical, commercial and programme risks
• Support bids, tenders and client presentations
• Foster collaboration between internal teams, consultants and external partners
• Champion health, safety, sustainability and Building Safety
• Mentor and develop Design Managers and Assistant Design Managers
• Promote innovation, best practice and continuous improvement across projects

Key requirements

• Proven experience in a Senior Design Manager, Design Lead or similar role within residential or construction
• Strong understanding of construction methods, design management and project delivery
• Experience managing multidisciplinary consultant teams and complex stakeholder relationships
• Excellent communication, influencing and negotiation skills
• Ability to identify risk, solve problems and make informed decisions
• Experience supporting bids, tenders and client presentations
• Collaborative leadership style with a passion for developing people and improving performance
• Professional membership or chartered status (or working towards) would be advantageous
