Overview

In this role you will lead the UK CAT team, delivering analytics and technology products for Mercer. You’ll own technical direction across a distributed London–India engineering setup, partnering with risk advisory stakeholders to translate needs into scalable software. You drive end-to-end delivery, ensure robust APIs and data flows, and elevate engineering standards. You’ll shape AI/ML opportunities with governance and human-in-the-loop controls, delivering impact for clients and colleagues.

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end delivery of CAT products from problem framing to release and support
  • Translate risk advisory needs into technical requirements, user stories, and designs; support UAT and rollout
  • Own backend and integration approach (APIs, data flows, security, RBAC) ensuring scalability and maintainability
  • Provide technical leadership for a distributed team (London + India): sprint planning, code reviews, mentoring
  • Drive quality and operational readiness: testing strategy, CI/CD, release notes, production deployment governance, incident management
  • Identify and deliver practical AI/ML opportunities with governance and human-in-the-loop controls

Key requirements

  • Experience managing a team of ~5 and contributing hands-on coding
  • Proven track record as Tech Lead/Lead Engineer delivering production software with code ownership
  • Strong backend engineering skills (API design, data modelling, performance) and secure RBAC applications
  • Experience working with business stakeholders in a financial firm and explaining technical tradeoffs
  • Ability to lead agile delivery across time zones (sprint ceremonies, prioritization, coordination)
