Freight Forwarding Operations Manager

Overview

In this role you will lead a multimodal freight operation to drive service quality, profitability and account growth within a growing international logistics group. You will oversee air, road and ocean activities, mentor the operations team and maintain strong client relationships. This role combines hands-on operations with strategic commercial influence, reporting to the Director. It offers ownership of performance improvements and a clear pathway to shape the next phase of the business.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day operations across air, road and ocean freight to ensure reliable service and solid commercial results
• Manage, motivate and appraise the operations team
• Own departmental profit and loss
• Prepare RFQs, quotations and tender submissions
• Develop key customer accounts and identify growth opportunities
• Negotiate with suppliers for competitive rates and service
• Attend customer and supplier meetings
• Resolve operational issues and maintain service standards
• Identify process, productivity and profitability improvements

Key requirements

• Multimodal freight forwarding experience, preferably with an export bias
• Previous management experience within freight forwarding
• Strong hands-on operational knowledge
• Experience managing profit and loss
• Confidence handling RFQs and tender submissions
• Proven customer relationship and key account management skills
• Strong supplier negotiation skills
• Ability to develop a team and lead by example
