Overview

In this role you’ll join Citi’s GenAI-focused engineering team to build and support Generative AI platforms and services. You’ll learn from senior engineers while contributing to backend, distributed systems, and cloud-native workloads, including LLM-based applications. The role blends hands-on development with mentoring, pair programming, and fast iteration in a collaborative, start-up-like environment inside a global bank. You’ll help shape scalable GenAI solutions and gain experience across modern tech stacks with real impact on financial applications. This is an opportunity to grow into AI and software engineering through practical projects and ongoing mentorship.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to development and support of Generative AI platforms, services and applications
  • Build components including CLIs, SDKs and supporting tooling
  • Write clean, tested, maintainable, and well-documented code
  • Work with backend technologies, primarily Golang or similar
  • Collaborate with senior engineers, product managers and SMEs to deliver solutions
  • Participate in pair programming, code reviews, and collaborative development
  • Contribute to design discussions and understand distributed, scalable systems
  • Support LLM-based applications and GenAI capabilities
  • Investigate bugs, respond to feedback, improve reliability and performance
  • Develop understanding of cloud-native tech, containers and Kubernetes/OpenShift
  • Contribute to testing and validation as platforms scale
  • Build knowledge of GenAI through hands-on work and mentorship
  • Work with adjacent teams and communicate progress clearly
  • Stay curious about emerging technologies and opportunities to improve software delivery

Key requirements

  • Around 1–2 years of hands-on software engineering experience
  • Strong foundation in data structures, algorithms and coding practices
  • Experience with Golang or another backend language; willingness to deepen Go expertise
  • Python is a plus
  • Basic understanding of React and TypeScript
  • Understanding of REST APIs
  • Basic exposure to Kubernetes, OpenShift or containerised apps
  • Familiarity with MongoDB and Redis
  • Basic understanding of OAuth and JWT
  • Awareness of LLMs and Generative AI with enthusiasm to learn more
  • Interest in RAG, context retrieval, fine-tuning and LLM-based development
  • Basic awareness of secure coding practices
  • Exposure to CI/CD, monitoring or observability tools like Grafana or ELK is advantageous
  • Exposure to ETL concepts, data pipelines, vector stores or AI infrastructure advantageous
