About the Role

Our client, a growing mechanical and electrical contractor, is looking for an experienced Technical Manager. This role suits someone with a technical and design engineering background in M&E and proven pre-construction and tender experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the technical side of tenders: review drawings and specifications, identify risks, and develop value engineering options to win work.
• Develop and coordinate M&E design from commencement to handover, leading liaison with consultants and design teams.
• Identify design clashes and installation issues, and provide practical solutions.
• Review technical submissions, equipment selections and manufacturers’ information.
• Support project and site teams with programme, costs, resources and procurement, and oversee subcontractors and suppliers.
• Work with the commercial team to monitor costs, manage variations and identify savings.
• Support Quality Assurance and Health and Safety systems, and review ITPs, testing and commissioning records.

Essential Experience

• Proven experience as a Technical Manager, Design Manager, Senior M&E Engineer or similar.
• M&E building services design and technical coordination background.
• Strong pre-construction and tender experience.
• Ability to read and understand M&E drawings and specifications.
• Experience managing subcontractors and suppliers, with good commercial and contract awareness.
• Strong communication and organisational skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects.
• Full UK driving licence.

Desirable

• HNC, HND or degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Building Services Engineering.
• CIBSE or IET membership.
• SMSTS and CSCS.
• AutoCAD, Revit or BIM.
• NEC and/or JCT contracts, and design-and-build experience.
