Sales Manager – Structural Steel
Huddersfield, West Yorkshire
Permanent | Full Time
Competitive salary, depending on experience
Selling steel isn’t about sending out a few quotes and waiting for the phone to ring.
You need to understand what you’re selling, who can deliver it, what makes a project commercially worthwhile and how to turn a conversation with a client into steel leaving the fabrication yard.
That’s where you come in.
We’re looking for a Sales Manager with experience working for a structural steel fabricator to develop relationships, identify new opportunities and bring profitable work into the business.
The Role
You’ll be responsible for developing new business while looking after and growing existing client relationships.
You’ll be speaking with contractors, developers, engineers and other industry contacts, understanding upcoming projects and getting the business involved early enough to compete for the work.
You’ll identify opportunities, qualify enquiries and work closely with estimating, engineering and project teams to make sure what’s being sold is something the business can deliver successfully.
You’ll also stay close to clients throughout the process, building relationships that lead to repeat business rather than treating every project as a one-off transaction.
What You’ll Bring
- Proven sales/business development experience within a structural steel fabrication business
- Strong understanding of structural steelwork, fabrication and project delivery
- Existing contacts across contractors, developers, main contractors or related construction sectors
- Track record of developing new business and winning work
- Confidence discussing steelwork requirements with both commercial and technical contacts
- Ability to understand drawings, specifications and project requirements
- Strong negotiation and relationship-building skills
- Commercial awareness and understanding of project margins
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to meet clients and attend project meetings
Why This Role?
You’ll be selling something you actually understand.
Your steelwork experience means you can have meaningful conversations with clients, understand the challenges behind their projects and work with the internal team to put forward realistic, commercially viable solutions.
There’s also plenty of scope to make your mark, developing new relationships, opening doors to new projects and helping grow the order book rather than simply managing an existing sales pipeline.
If you’ve built your sales career inside a structural steel fabricator and know how to turn industry relationships into profitable projects, this could be worth a conversation.
