About the service

We are looking for enthusiastic and compassionate Support Workers to join our Forfar Housing Support Service, supporting 4 individuals with Learning Disabilities, Complex Sensory needs and Behaviours that can challenge.

This isn’t a role where 2 days look the same. The people we support need staff who are positive, innovative and adaptable. People who take time to understand how each individual communicates, what matters to them and how they experience the world around them.

The individuals we support have a range of complex communication needs. At times, they may communicate distress through behaviours that can be challenging. You will need to remain Calm, Confident, Consistent, seeking to understand what the person is communicating and respond to them in a positive, supportive and respectful way.

A big part of the role is also about having fun and creating meaningful experiences. We want staff who can think outside the box, come up with new ideas and find creative ways for people to participate in activities they enjoy.

You will work closely with colleagues, families and other professionals to provide consistent high-quality support.

Role Includes

  • Supporting people through behaviours that may challenge you
  • Delivering a varied range of personal care
  • Manual handling and wheelchair pushing
  • Administering and supporting with medication
  • Cooking/Meal preparation and menu planning
  • Support with household tasks including cleaning and shopping
  • Provide support with finances
  • Support to go on holidays or short breaks
  • Writing and maintaining support plans and risk assessments

You’ll be joining a small, welcoming and experienced staff team, supported by a Registered Manager, an on site Locality Manager and Team Leader. You’ll always have guidance when you need it — but you’ll also have the space to bring your own ideas, energy and compassion to your role. What matters most to us, is you have a genuine passion for supporting people to live full, meaningful, independent lives.

We’re looking for people who are:

  • Fun and Enthusiastic – Bring energy, humour and positivity to the people you support
  • Innovate and Creative – Willing to try new approaches and find different ways to help people engage and achieve their goals
  • Trustworthy and reliable – People we, and most importantly the individuals we support, can depend on
  • Adaptable – Able to respond positively when situations or needs change
  • Excellent communicators – Able to listen, observe and adapt your communication to meet individual needs including non-verbal and sensory communication
  • Calm and Resilient – Able to respond safely and professionally to behaviours that may challenge you
  • Patient and Compassionate – Understanding that building trusting relationships takes time and consistency
  • Team Players – Able to work collaboratively whilst also using innovative and taking responsibility
