A specialist SEND school in Gateshead is looking for a passionate Speech & Language Support Assistant to join their team.
If you have a Speech & Language background or experience supporting children with communication needs, this could be an excellent opportunity to make a genuine difference.
Location: GatesheadHours: 8:30am – 3:30pm, Monday-FridayStart Date: ASAP
The Role
You’ll provide targeted support to pupils who experience speech, language and communication difficulties.
Your role will include:
- 1:1 and small-group interventions
- Supporting speech and language development
- Building vocabulary and comprehension
- Encouraging expressive language
- Supporting social communication
- Helping pupils communicate their needs
- Using visual and communication strategies
- Supporting classroom learning
- Working closely with teachers and SEND staff
- Monitoring pupil progress
About You
We’re looking for someone with:
- Speech & Language or SEND experience
- A relevant qualification or degree
- Experience working with children
- A calm and patient approach
- Strong communication skills
- The ability to build positive relationships
- A genuine passion for supporting pupils with additional needs
Experience with Autism, complex SEND, non-verbal pupils or social communication difficulties would be advantageous.
