Road Freight Operator
Leeds | Up to £35,000 | Monday-Friday, 9:00am-5:00pm | Permanent
My client is an established, privately owned freight forwarding business with a long-standing presence in the Leeds market and a strong customer base across the UK.
Due to continued requirements within their Operations team, they are now looking for an experienced Road Freight Operator to join their Import & Export department.
This is a varied role suited to an experienced freight forwarding professional who enjoys managing shipments from start to finish, building strong customer relationships and taking on additional responsibility within a close-knit team.
The Role
You will be responsible for the day-to-day management of Import and Export shipments, working closely with customers, suppliers and internal teams to ensure freight moves efficiently and accurately.

Responsibilities
- Managing road freight Import and Export shipments from start to finish
- Preparing freight quotations and calculating costs
- Building jobs and completing relevant customs entries
- Liaising with customers, suppliers and overseas partners
- Preparing and checking shipping and customs documentation
- Handling invoicing and associated administration
- Monitoring shipments and resolving operational issues
- Maintaining strong, long-term customer relationships
- Supporting and mentoring more junior members of the team
- Managing your own workload while contributing to the wider Operations team
About You
The successful candidate will have solid experience within freight forwarding, ideally with a strong background in road freight operations and Import/Export.
We’re looking for someone with:
- You will be confident dealing directly with customers and suppliers and comfortable managing multiple shipments and priorities simultaneously.
- Proven freight forwarding / road freight operations experience
- Good knowledge of Import and Export procedures
- Experience with customs documentation and entries
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Good IT skills and attention to detail
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team
- A proactive approach and willingness to support junior colleagues
