Software Engineer III, Backend Development, Google Health Labs

Overview

As a Software Engineer on the Platforms and Devices team, you design, build, and maintain infrastructure and components powering data processing, serving, and development for Google Health research. You prototype new systems to test ideas and help partner teams integrate with the platform, while owning services and contributing to on-call rotations. You collaborate across multi-site teams to push scalable, low-latency backend solutions and AI-enabled capabilities that scale with user needs. This role offers hands-on impact in a fast-moving, research-driven environment with opportunities to shape foundational technology.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain common components and infrastructure for data processing, infrastructure, serving, and development
• Develop prototype systems to validate innovative research ideas
• Assist partner teams with integration to the infrastructure and tools
• Own and maintain existing or new services, including on-call participation
• Communicate and collaborate with multi-disciplinary, multi-site teams

Key requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience
• 2 years of software development experience in one or more programming languages, or 1 year with an advanced degree
